Review: We Love Little Passports!

Little Passports

My little boy just turned five years old and it completely broke my heart. As he ripped the paper off of his birthday gift he exclaimed, “BOO. YA.” Out from underneath the lime green tissue emerged a little globe that stood about a foot high. He eagerly turned the earth around and around and begged my husband to show him where places where located. Not many young children would be so thrilled with such a gift, but my kid has caught the travel bug and nothing is more exciting to him than traveling and learning.

Unfortunately, we can’t always travel. We have school and work and soccer practice just as many other families do, and these things prevent us all from getting out there and exploring the world as we’d like to. My family is constantly looking for ways to discover the world from the comfort of our own home, and Little Passports helps us do that.

When our first package came, my son was elated. Who gets mail anymore? A box that was just for him was certainly the highlight of his week. We gently pulled back the tape and opened the package. “What is it, Mommy?” he asked me. “It’s an explorer kit from Sam and Sophia just for you!” I replied.

Of course he had absolutely no clue what that meant, but when we opened the souvenir suitcase to check it out, he was very interested in finding out. He pulled out the passport and asked me what it was for. He liked the idea of putting stamps in there. We read the letter from Sam and Sophia before opening up the huge map of the world. We spent roughly half an hour sitting on the kitchen floor and looking over it together. I showed him the countries that I have traveled to. He asked me where the countries that he wants to travel to were on the map and I showed him. We talked about what makes certain countries unique and he was thrilled about potentially visiting each one someday.

I hung the map up on his wall so he could examine it whenever he wishes to. We will continue to talk about travel together, but we are both looking forward to the day when his next package arrives so we can explore a country in more detail through the souvenirs and other goodies that Sam and Sophia will send us!
