There’s something familiar, cozy and laid-back about Florida. It often draws me in when I want to get away for a while. It’s familiar and breezy to navigate, yet feels far enough to be a tropical getaway. I usually spend time on the Gulf coast for trips, or near Daytona Beach to see family. My spouse is obsessed with Sanibel and Captiva, I like Palm beach and the Florida Keys. And obviously, all the theme parks. 🎢

Most recently I checked out a new destination: Saint Augustine. To celebrate Taylor’s new banger and the latest on Pure Wander, here’s some of my favorite shots from the sunny state. ☀️

A return trip 22 years in the making! 🙌🏻

Bryce National Park might be one of my favorites in the whole country. The other-worldly landscape is just something you have to see in person. Especially the ombré-colored hoodoos in white and orange! No matter how much time you have you can get a taste of this gorgeous scenery at multiple outlook points, easy rim hikes, and more challenging switchbacks down into the canyon. I’ll have the full guide on the blog soon all about this epic trip!

I also got to travel with an amazing group of women which was the cherry on top of a great experience. Thanks especially to @wanderingwithmegan for the photo of me. I feel so fancy!

And of course, I brought my @hibearco Adventure flask in hopes of making a celebratory cocktail but the altitude knocked me down 😅 it’ll be perfect next time I car camp with the squad though - these special ‘flasks’ can handle all these different beverages:

🍷 Wine (plus doubles of the decanter!)
☕️ Cold brew coffee
🫖 Hot or cold tea (keep it chilly with the freezable core)
🍹 Cocktails (comes with muddler!)
🍓 Fruit infused water
💧 And yeah, regular water too

Anyways I can’t wait to return to Utah with everyone to conquer more of the mighty five. There’s five beautiful national parks in the state and I think I’ve made it to all of them except Capitol Reef.

Woo boy I can’t believe how hard this hit me on my recent trip to Utah! But don’t worry it was short-lived and I still had an amazing time. I flew straight from Massachusetts and got in a van to Bryce Canyon National Park. I felt OK for a while but as time went on:

🏥 Had a tough time catching breath, like there was a brick on my chest
🏥 I felt really nauseous and couldn’t keep food down
🏥 I lost my appetite and generally felt gross

It got worse when I returned to Salt Lake City, and took several days to acclimate! It was still well worth the trip, but I wish I prepared better. There’s three mistakes I made: you can avoid these next time you take a trip to the mountains! 🏔️

📍Hydrate, hydrate hydrate! I hear I need to drink at least what I usually do at home. That made the symptoms worse.
📍 Should’ve stuck to simple food at first, rich food made me extra queasy.
📍 And maybe this is common sense, but I felt a little better and had a beer. Nope. It’s worth avoiding alcohol altogether! I think that exacerbated the issue as well.

Come join me on the easiest hike in Bryce National Park 🏞️

I was a little nervous to be honest about hiking in Utah. I had a baby like six months ago, and sometimes elevation affects me. It wasn’t easy, but I did manage three small hikes on this little trip to Bryce National Park! And this one might’ve been my favorite. Very meandering as the sun goes down with little cave and waterfall stops. Just about perfect.

Definitely try it even if you are nervous!

It’s a dreamy way to walk into baggage claim through the SLC airport. The main wall installation is 400 feet long and is created by artist Gordon Huether. The benches are seating and sculptural. It’s a cool way to be welcomed into this mountainous city!

When we do long road trips, we drive a lot at night. The LED Baby On Board sign is plugged into your trunk outlet or upfront with the extender and stays illuminated while you drive in the dark. It’s such a clever upgrade to the traditional sign!

Also, did you know the baby on board sticker isn’t just to let other drivers know who’s in your car? It also helps to alert our emergency responders who might need to access your backseat quickly in event of an accident. The only way to embrace the chaos of what to see in Sri Lanka is to dive in head first. 🇱🇰 Experience it from the back of a tuk-tuk, which is basically a three-wheeled motorbike and carriage.

Tuk tuks are great as taxis, but some companies will take you on a tour too. Visit urban temples, have some Kottu Roti street food, visit the waterfront and drive right through one of the city’s busiest markets. 🌆

When you start feeling brave, you can have a young coconut hacked open by machete to hydrate or a little some stronger, like a Lion beer, from the cooler. 🍺 I suggest letting your driver open up the top of the tuk-tuk and standing up with the refreshing breeze – it can be a wild ride!

We’re going to book soon! My husband’s British, so we got UK passports for both our daughters as soon as we could. Hopefully it means extra opportunities for traveling, education, and who knows what else in the future. We brought my first girl over to meet her great granddad, cousins, and aunties when she was year and a half. It’s the baby’s turn!

The family is mostly in South Wales, but I really hope to do London this time, I live there for a few years and miss it so much. Fingers crossed!

SAVE & SHARE THIS POST if you deal with flight anxiety or have a loved one who’s scared. You’re not alone! ✈️🤲

For thirty years on this planet, I never had a real panic attack. Then one time I was taking a short flight from England to Portugal and my breath became short. This dread of ‘this is the end’ swept over me uncontrollably for a few minutes as I felt the plane cabin close in around me. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. Seemingly, it was official: I was now scared to fly.

It took a long time and lots of patience, but I’ve gained some calm back when flying. Here are some strategies from my own journey:

💭Deep Breathing: Count 8-10 seconds inhaling through your nose, then 5-8 seconds exhaling. It centers your mind and can quell that fight or flight system from kicking in.

💭Educate Yourself: Remind yourself of flight safety statistics to combat irrational fears, there’s lot of courses and resources out there. Flight attendants’ composure during turbulence makes me feel better too.

💭Consider Medication: Consult a doctor about anti-anxiety meds, or keep them handy for peace of mind. I always have a pill on me now, but I haven’t needed to take one in almost 5 years.

💭Relaxation Techniques: A glass of wine or two can ease nerves, but hydrate and moderate to avoid a post-flight hangover. There’s CBT therapy and other things available too, sometimes even covered by insurance.

Remember, it’s okay to seek professional help if needed. IT’S ALWAYS OK. Don’t let fear ground your travel dreams. & send me a message: I’m here too if you need it! 🤗

When should you visit Japan? 🍁🇯🇵🌸

I know we are at PEAK cherry blossom season in Japan soon, but hear me out!

Fall in Japan means cozying up in warm sweaters, sipping on hot tea, and enjoying the stunning colors of autumn leaves. The temples framed by pointy red leaves is my favorite. I never got too warm walking around. It’s perfect for leisurely strolls in parks or exploring charming streets lined with trees ablaze in reds and yellows. 🍁

HOWEVER, cherry blossom season is all about picnics under the prettiest pink sakura trees and taking photos of hopeful spring blooms. It’s a time for enjoying outdoor festivities and soaking in the beauty of Japan’s most iconic flower. 🌸

My pick? Fall! Nothing is too crowded, air is crisp and it’s prime time for hot springs. I hope to see cherry blossoms someday, but the season is so short!

🛫Hiccapop Omniboost Portable High Chair
With supervision of course, this little foldable sturdy chair fits on top of adults chairs, coffee tables and the floor to give the baby space for play and eating upright.

🛫Rashguard Swimsuits
Seriously, stock up on these. The one-piece styles I found best because they don’t ride up and they stay snug. It cut down on sunscreen big time, especially when paired with a hat

🛫Portable White Noise Machine
Get one USB rechargeable. PS - you can always use a free app on your iPhone or tablet in a pinch too!

🛫Moby or Baby Bjorn Carrier
The freedom to use your hands while walking around with your baby is essential! My husband especially liked the Baby Bjorn because it’s fairly breathable and portable.

There’s several options with walkable accomodations right downtown in Plymouth. Recently I had the pleasure of staying at @hotel1620, the refurbished and former Radisson. The main lobby has a classic New England charm, as do the bar/pub area and other common spaces. It’s still used as an events hotel, from conferences to weddings.

Though some elements were a bit rustic, the main draw (especially for children) is the indoor pool and adjoining splash pad and waterslides. We had a balcony overlooking the pool, but did have a distinct chlorine smell permeating the space. But the stay was very comfortable and my toddler couldn’t get enough of our birds-eye pool view. 🏊🏻

🎋 SAVE & SHARE if you want to visit the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto, Japan! 🎋

As shafts of sunlight filtered through the dense canopy above, casting dappled patterns of light upon the forest floor, I was obsessed with the mesmerizing dance of shadows that filtered between the leaves.

This sacred sanctuary is about a 15 minute train ride from the city of Kyoto.

It’s free to enter the bamboo grove, but you can hire private tour guides to bring you to the best spots. There are some crowds, but going in the early morning or evening can help beat the sea of people.

You can definitely make a day of it and visit a few temples nearby, especially in the cherry blossom season and autumn leaf season. It’s beautiful.

The three-year-old thrived on Cranmore! Tidy resort in North Conway, smaller than others, but wasn’t too crowded even during school break. There’s several runs to the summit with more challenging trails, but they have a great ski school for the kids. They also have private lessons for the youngest ones. My spouse tackled the teaching though, and they both did great!

I didn’t get a chance to ski this time because I was with the baby, but they have a great snow park too with tubing and a mid mountain coaster. Definitely get tickets to that though ahead of time, everything was sold out by the time we wondered over one afternoon. Watch the last clip of the video though, you could see my toddler and new friends improvised! 😂
