Review: W Hotel Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Ft. Lauderdale high rise condoWho doesn’t still want a little luxury when traveling with kids? The two things can easily go hand in hand if you know where to look. Once in a while a wonderful place will surface that not only caters to the chic crowd, but also welcomes families to indulge in a little glamour. When you next head to Florida, consider bypassing Orlando or Miami, and head for Fort Lauderdale. Not only is there miles of beaches to frolic along, the nearby Everglades to discover and tons of outdoor activities, there is the W Hotel. It’s beautiful and perfectly located for the sun worshipping family.

I love accommodations with options. No matter if you’re a family of three or 30, they have a wide selection of choice to best suit your needs. Regular doubles boast plush bedding and sleek décor, and there’s also suites or mini-apartments available. These could be best for larger groups or parents who like to fix quick meals and snack for the kids in between exploring the town. The rooms have fully equipped kitchens, full-sized fridges and ample space to spread out. Request a room on a higher floor to get the best views from the balcony (fully enclosed for kids) of the ocean below.

The biggest draw for the kids might be the pool. Its unique design has a see-through plexiglas staircase in the middle of the layout, so you can take a peek at swimmers above and below the surface. Kids loved splashing along the stairs, explaining it felt like being in an aquarium. Although tough to describe, the feature makes this Florida pool special – not to mention the spectacular views from its fifth floor perch. Aim for early morning and afternoon hours during the weekdays to avoid a couple’s crowd, but families are welcome at all times. If the little ones need a place to crash, there are cabanas for rent to beat the beat, have a little TV-time and receive poolside service.

There are plenty of culinary picks on-site as well. A highlight is Steak 954’s brunch on the weekends – there is a fully stocked ice cream bar the brood will go gaga over, including baked Alaska, ice cream sandwiches and root beer floats.

This could be the perfect oasis in Florida to enjoy for the whole trip, or even just that one special night to feel like your family is in the lap of luxury. Check offers on the W Hotel Fort Lauderdale website for savings to make this getaway attractive and affordable.
