Review of Okura Prestige in Bangkok, Thailand: Up in the Clouds

By March 13, 2018August 29th, 20242 Comments

Feel on top of the world while taking a dip in an infinity pool in one of the best Bangkok luxury hotel options out there. This is no ordinary pool – it overlooks the Bladerunner-like skyline of an iconic Thai city from the 25th floor. While this is the crowning jewel of the Okura Prestige, it’s only one of many features that makes this place to stay a cut above the rest.

This hotel is a Bangkok mainstay in the heart of the busy financial district. Okura is a Japanese company that has several beautiful properties all over Asia, catering to business and luxury travelers with discerning tastes.

While people often want to see the night markets and temples in Bangkok, it’s well worth enjoying some of the sleek and sophisticated areas of this metropolitan city. There are attractions nearby for those who enjoy art and culture, from the Thao Mahaprom Shrine to the Thonson Gallery. It goes without saying, there are plenty of upscale shopping opportunities as well inside nearby plazas, which staff at the Okura is happy to help you find and plan out your day.

Big Rooms Big Style

Corner rooms seem to boast the best views, as window space is doubled overlooking the skyline. You can throw open the heavy curtains to see the world rush by below. Or, have a dramatic nighttime backdrop while sleeping.

Each bathroom space is draped in sleek stone details, with a spread of luxury toiletries to keep you pampered. There’s ample storage space for hanging suits and evening wear, as well as storing luggage. Porters are happy to deliver your belonging to the room upon check-in. Japanese details like kimono-style robes and little origami figures left as gift during the turndown services make the room a special sanctuary.

Wine and Dine in a Bangkok Luxury Hotel

In the morning, head down the elevator to the expansive breakfast buffet. East meets West in their offerings, from the fresh noodle bar to omelets and fresh pastries. Nothing felt rushed and the relaxed atmosphere was a welcome way to wake up overlooking Bangkok through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

This is one of the spaces used for evening dining experiences as well. We enjoyed a massive spread of traditional Thai cuisine with a twist on our last night in the country, which was a perfect end to the trip. Do take care dishes like the Gaeng Phed Ped Yang (red curry with roasted duck) are spicy, but not overwhelming. Complement your food with an array of tropical yet tart cocktails, such as the lychee martini. Finish the meal with some traditional sticky mango rice and an aperitif out on the balcony lounge if weather permits.

To make the entire stay seamless, the Okura Prestige can arrange transport to and from the Bangkok airports. This helps you home or onto your next destination flawlessly. Staff are knowledge, friendly and happy to assist. We were glad to have a wake-up call and taxi arranged ahead of time so we could depart as soon as the indulgent breakfast was over, despite our early takeoff time.

Feel on top of the world at this exceptional Bangkok luxury hotel. The Okura Prestige is one of my favorites downtown - with an infinity pool on the 25th floor and a large breakfast buffet spread.
